What To Expect

The Heritage Museum of the Bahamas
Make your way to the Heritage Museum of The Bahamas — located in Mountbatten House on West Hill Street — from Monday to Saturday between 9am and 4pm. Then, meet your guide to begin your 45-minute tour. Opened in July 2014, the museum is now widely considered among Nassau’s top attractions.

During your visit, take an in-depth look at the history and heritage of the Bahamas — ranging from the prehistoric times to today. Discover expansive collections of relics and treasures spanning the centuries, such as fossils and a meteorite dating back 4.5 billion years.

Travel back to the days of Columbus and the piracy era, and learn of life as a slave on the plantations. Along the way, gain insight into the bold explorers who played roles in the development of the Bahamas.

When your guided visit comes to an end, step outside to conclude your tour.

Interesting small museum filled with lots of historical artifacts. Definitely get the audio guide and plan for 45 minutes. Terrific overview of Bahamian history.
Hidden Gem

We seemed to be the only ones taking the self guided tour durning the early afternoon we visited. The iPod narration moved a little slowly and was a bit confusing but the artifacts in this unique museum were wonderful. This museum is in an old home that has been converted. We were walking to various sights in Nassau so it was nice to cool off before heading to our next location.
Godt historisk museum

Vi fik en tur med en audio device, der var mange temaer of meget der var udstillet. Jeg synes museet lever op til de forventninger man måtte have til et sådant museum.
Amateurish overview of Bahama history

An amateur historian's poorly collected menagerie of artifacts often places out of context. While of interest and worthy of a visit, this is another unfortunate example of collections that are not given the proper attention needed. Especially signified by the amount of dust collecting on some artifacts and cobwebs in corners. Exhibits we're not chronologically arranged but rathery by time they were collected. Resulting in odd exhibits and context and exhibits that have little relevance to each other or the island.
